Hard to believe it, but the July 4th holiday is almost here. There’s plenty happening at your Community Center to help make it the best one ever.
Coming up Saturday island favorite Dave Bennet will be back in the Robert Gillespie Memorial Theater. Dave is known for jazz and the clarinet–think Benny Goodman for our days–but that’s just the beginning. His skills and show span many musical genres including swing, gospel, blues and rock. Jazz is just the starting point. For this special event there will be beer and wine available at our concession stand along with our usual snacks, pop and canned drinks. Tickets are $35 and available at the BIC center front desk or by calling 231-448-2022. Don’t delay in getting yours. They are selling quickly.
It’s our Tenth Birthday at the BIC Center. We’re celebrating with a street party this weekend–and you are invited. Join us for treats out front and help mark the 10th anniversary of the opening of Community Center Sunday afternoon from 1 to 3. We’ll have live music with the street closed so you can admire the old LaFreniere store facade that graces the front of your community center. It’ll be a great opportunity to greet old friends and make some new ones.
On Independence Day, join us here at the BIC Center to watch the parade either from the sidewalk or upstairs in the hangout. There’ll be live coverage on WVBI (and on our curbside speakers) with your favorite parade hosts: Phil Becker and Dennis Winslow. Plus, we’ll provide music outside all day with a special Independence Day Cottage Mix from WVBI.
Coming up soon is the PABI Summer Gala, which is our primary fundraising event of the summer along with our silent auction, which is going on now. Stop by the BIC Center lobby to see the selection of items, including a beautiful reading chair built by island artisan Dr. Charlie Creasser. If you have items to donate for the auction (home decor, a special meal prepared at your house, a weekend at your vacation place), Ron Wojan would like to hear from you. Reach him at 448-2400. And mark your calendar for July 12 to attend the Gala.
