With Independence Day festivities this week we’ll see a steady stream of visitors to the island.  Whether you are visiting for a day, a week, a month or more, we invite you to drop by Beaver Island’s Community Center — the BIC Center — to get your Emerald Isle adventure started.  We serve as the trail head for both the Beaver Island Birding and Water Trails. Our brochure racks are full of information about island services and activities.  At our front desk you’ll find someone to answer your questions, get you pointed in the right direction and, if you need a snack, serve you a delicious Nathan’s hot dog, chips and a cool pop, lemonade or iced tea.

If you head upstairs you’ll find games, a pool table, big screen TV, nice chairs for reading and public use PCs and printers. It’s perfect for a mid-day break, a family rendezvous point or a refuge on a rainy day. And, on Independence Day, it’s a great place to take in the parade if you need shelter from the sun or to watch the fireworks if you don’t want to be outside. The BIC Center will be open 9 to 9 on the 4th with all of our many services available.

We have lots of activities to help you make the most of your Independence Day week on the island. Yoga classes are on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  Click here for details.  On Thursday the CMU Summer Theater Program starts its third annual run on our Robert Gillespie Memorial Theater.  Shows are at 7:30 Thursday and Friday.  The Thursday show is Self Help. Friday it’s The Great Kooshog Lake Hollis McCauley Fishing Derby.  Both shows are comedies and, if past experience is a guide, sure to be fantastic and sell-outs.  Tickets are available at the BIC Center Front Desk.  On Saturday we’ll clear the stage for movies:  DC Lego Super Hero Girls at 3 and Black Panther at 7.
