Changes to our Summer Schedule
Given the current situation with Covid-19 several events on the Island have been cancelled or changed to adapt to the current situation. This includes our Summer Solstice Dinner and the GALA dinner scheduled for July. We are planning these events for later in the summer/fall if we can, with a wait and see approach for all remaining events. This year’s auctions will
take place online on our newly developed auction website. After June 15th the auction will be open at gala2020.biccenter.org. We hope this will be a fun, exciting alternative to our live and silent auction!
Central Michigan University also cancelled their July theater performances and rescheduled them for 2021, and Baroque on the Beaver is conducting their events virtually.
We hope to open the Center as soon as the Governor’s executive orders allow, and we hope to again offer yoga, computer use, visitor information, movies, a place to meet-up with friends or hang-out while waiting for the ferry. We will, of course, follow all recommended health and safety guidelines, for all staff and visitors. The Dave Bennett Concert has already been rescheduled for August 8th, and we continue planning for the future. Our current schedule of major summer events appears with this post.
We rely on our fundraising activities to keep the doors open, and in these uncertain times, we feel our operations are more critical than ever to the residents and guests of Beaver Island. May 5th, is Giving Tuesday. You can donate for Giving Tuesday, or any other day, and support ongoing operations during these challenging times. You can make a donation now by clicking on “Donate” in the menu at the top or, if you prefer, send a check to P.O. Box 494 Beaver Island, MI 49782.
We look forward to seeing you at the BIC Center soon after the current restrictions are lifted and it is safe for you to visit. In the meantime, please keep in touch by listening to WVBI and following us on Facebook. You can also follow WVBI on Facebook and Twitter, and get the latest island COVID-19 news on the WVBI COVID-19 Info page.
What’s at the BIC Center?
The Welcome Center
The front room of our first floor is a Welcome Center. It is a great place to get information, grab a snack, connect to Wi-Fi and kick off your island adventure. It’s also home to the office of the Island’s Chamber of Commerce.
BIC Center Theater
The BIC Center Theater is the premier performance space on the island hosting music of all genres, dance, theater productions, movies, seminars and community meetings. Check here for complete information on upcoming events.
The Hangout
Our Hangout upstairs offers an informal gathering place for meetings, reading, pool, board games, video games, TV, using our community PCs and printer, and … just hanging out. Also there are studios for the community’s radio station…our very own WVBI-The Voice of Beaver Island.
