Forward Through the Fall
Our fall colors are passed peak as we start the month of November, but plenty of fall splendor remains both in the woods and around the island as we get ready for another spectacular winter on America’s Emerald Isle. Events at the BIC Center continue at the BIC Center—more on those shortly—but first a few words about our annual giving request which donors will receive in the mail this month.
PABI’s Annual Giving Request is one of the key sources of revenue to support the BIC Center and WVBI. It comes as PABI has received grants to strengthen its leadership with funding for a full-time paid leader to take on numerous tasks now done by PABI’s all-volunteer board. This will be critical as the board moves forward to implement its strategic plan to grow the roles of the BIC Center and WVBI in our island community. We hope you will help our new PABI leadership get off to a good start by continuing your operating support for the BIC Center and WVBI. Please know that regardless of size—all gifts will benefit the entire island community through the programs at the BIC Center and WVBI.
As to what’s happening at the BIC Center, our weekend movies, Pickleball and the Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program all continue. Pickleball is now back inside in the McDonough’s Market Theatre on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 to noon. The move from Thursdays to Fridays is to accommodate a Conference on Faith Series that is running weekly on Wednesday evenings at 6 through December 8. After that, Pickleball will be back to its regular Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday schedule. The Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program is on Tuesdays and Fridays at 10:30 up in the Ray & Ann Stanhope Hangout at the BIC Center. Our weekend movies continue through the winter with showings at 4 and 7 on Saturday. You’ll find info on upcoming showings by scrolling down or clicking on this link.
In December, we’ll have special events including a tree lighting for the Community’s Shop Local Saturday kick-off to the Christmas shopping season. That’s on December 7. In addition to the tree lighting, we’ll have a crafts show, special movies and holiday treats at the concession stand.
We look forward to seeing you at your Beaver Island Community Center.
What’s at the BIC Center?
The Welcome Center
The front room of our first floor is a Welcome Center. It is a great place to get information, grab a snack, connect to Wi-Fi and kick off your island adventure. It’s also home to the office of the Island’s Chamber of Commerce.
BIC Center Theater
The BIC Center Theater is the premier performance space on the island hosting music of all genres, dance, theater productions, movies, seminars and community meetings. Check here for complete information on upcoming events.
The Hangout
Our Hangout upstairs offers an informal gathering place for meetings, reading, pool, board games, video games, TV, using our community PCs and printer, and … just hanging out. Also there are studios for the community’s radio station…our very own WVBI-The Voice of Beaver Island.
