Discover Summer in the Fall on the Island
The “official” end of summer doesn’t mean the end of summer-like weather on the island or the end of fun at your Beaver Island Community Center. September brings the Irish Festival to the island with special events here at the Community Center including a presentation on the history and evolution of music on the island, an Irish dance demonstration and showings of Home on the Island-the story of Irish migration to the island and the twinning of Beaver with Árainn Mhór. Yoga and Tai Chi continue through the first week of the month. The Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program continues on Tuesdays and Fridays at 10:30 as do movies on Saturdays at 4 and 7.

On September 17 we’re proud to join the Beaver Island Historical society in bringing a presentation and exhibition on African American history to the BIC Center. Join us for the Black History 101 Mobile Museum presentation and exhibition on Tuesday, September 17 from 7 to 9.

Have you bought your Kubota Raffle tickets yet? Remember, all net proceeds go to support the BIC Center and WVBI. So, even if you don’t win the Kubota–you win by supporting two important island resources. Tickets are $50 for one and $100 for three. They are available at the BIC Center front desk, from any PABI board member or by calling 231-448-2022.
Our fall fun will continue in October with the Bite of Beaver Art & Craft Show in the McDonough’s Market Theater here at the BIC Center on October 5. Want to display your wares? Sign up at the BIC Center Front Desk. Or you can use the signup form here. Either drop it by the BIC Center or send it in with your check.
What’s at the BIC Center?
The Welcome Center
The front room of our first floor is a Welcome Center. It is a great place to get information, grab a snack, connect to Wi-Fi and kick off your island adventure. It’s also home to the office of the Island’s Chamber of Commerce.
BIC Center Theater
The BIC Center Theater is the premier performance space on the island hosting music of all genres, dance, theater productions, movies, seminars and community meetings. Check here for complete information on upcoming events.
The Hangout
Our Hangout upstairs offers an informal gathering place for meetings, reading, pool, board games, video games, TV, using our community PCs and printer, and … just hanging out. Also there are studios for the community’s radio station…our very own WVBI-The Voice of Beaver Island.
