Fall Into Fun at your Beaver Island Community Center
Fall is here and we’ve left the hectic pace of summer behind, but there is still plenty of fun at the BIC Center. Movies continue every Saturday in the McDonough’s Market Theater here at the BIC Center. There’s always a family friendly show at 3 and a feature at 7. Our concession stand has Nathan’s hot dogs, popcorn, candy, pop and other drinks — plus coming soon: pretzels and pizza by the slice. Drop in, grab a bite and see a show on the big screen with Dolby Atmos sound.
October 20th we have two more great shows. At 3, it’s Walt Disney’s first motion picture length cartoon (which was a radical idea in 1935): Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Our show will be of the original hand-drawn film, but lovingly restored by Disney to enhance bot the picture and the sound. If you never seen the film, you need to see this bit of film history. If you have seen it, here’s a chance to see it again. Either way, it’s a fun film to share with your kids. It’s rated G. At 7, we have the action-packed action-hero movie Ant-Man and the Wasp. It’s PG-13 and packed full of fun..
The fun at the BIC Center doesn’t stop on Saturday. Every week at the BIC Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 to noon you can play Pickle Ball for fun and exercise, or from 10 to 11 you can participate in the Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program. And on Thursdays you can stop by to play board or card games with friends old and new. Games Galore is from 1 to 4. Looking for more to do on the island? The Community Center is just the beginning. Check out events happening all over the island on the WVBI/BIC Center Community Calendar.
And don’t forget to get your Kubota tickets. The drawing is fast approaching on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. You can purchase tickets upstairs on the office or from any PABI board member. Remember that PABI operates the BIC Center and WVBI with no taxpayer support. Our only income is from donations and net fees charged for events. Please pitch in with your fellow islanders to help assure that that your BIC Center has the funding necessary to continue its service to our island community.
What’s at the BIC Center?
The Welcome Center
The front room of our first floor is a Welcome Center. It is a great place to get information, grab a snack, connect to Wi-Fi and kick off your island adventure. It’s also home to the office of the Island’s Chamber of Commerce.
BIC Center Theater
The BIC Center Theater is the premier performance space on the island hosting music of all genres, dance, theater productions, movies, seminars and community meetings. Check here for complete information on upcoming events.
The Hangout
Our Hangout upstairs offers an informal gathering place for meetings, reading, pool, board games, video games, TV, using our community PCs and printer, and … just hanging out. Also there are studios for the community’s radio station…our very own WVBI-The Voice of Beaver Island.
