Fine weather and fine fun at the BIC Center
The summer crowds may have left the island, but the summer weather lingers on here on America’s Emerald Isle. And your Beaver Island Community Center has fun to go with it.
On September 21st, Kennedy’s Kitchen will be here. Kennedy’s Kitchen is all things Irish-from pub songs and sing-a-longs, stories, recitation, to ripping dance tunes; from pounding on the tables to crying in your beer. Its voices raised in song, rich harmonies, fiddle, flute, whistle, mandolin, tenor banjo, bouzouki, guitar, and bass . . . when they are being serious; and every now and again, a kazoo or two. They sing and play from the deep tradition while also composing our own tunes, songs, and recitations. You can view it as a perfect wrap-up to a tenth anniversary summer season of music at the BIC Center–or the kick-off to a great off-season of fun for those who know that the Emerald Isle is gorgeous in the fall, winter and spring. The show is at 8:00 p.m. on September 21st. Tickets are $25 and on sale now at the BIC Center front desk.
Movies continue every Saturday in the Robert Gillespie Memorial Theater here at the BIC Center. There’s always a family friendly show at 3 and a feature at 7. On September 22nd we have two fantastic movies: one old and one new. The afternoon show is The Princess
Bride. It’s been around awhile, but it is still the best bedtime story ever told. A princess, pirates and rodents of unusual size. Castle stormings, cliffs of insanity and more. It’s inconceivable. And at 7, our feature film is Hearts Beat Loud. It’s the story of a father and a daughter. And the band they form. Movies continue throughout the fall, winter and spring. Check back here for details.
Every week at the BIC Center on Tuesdays and Fridays at 10 you can participate in the Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program. And on Thursdays you can stop by to play board or card games with friends old and new. Games Galore is from 1 to 4. Starting the 26th, Pickel Ball is back at the BIC Center on Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 to noon. Games will continue through next spring. It’s great exercise and great fun.
Also coming up on October 6th is the annual Bite of Beaver Craft Show and Sale here at the BIC Center. If you’d like to have a table, now’s the time to sign up. Stop by the BIC Center Front Desk or call 448-2022 for more info.
