Great Music at the BIC Center
The Robert Gillespie Memorial Theater at the BIC Center will be filled with great music next week.
Tuesday July 24 at 8 The Moxie Strings will be here. Hailed as “top-notch, instrumental wizardry,” The Moxie Strings offer listeners the unique opportunity to experience some of the world’s best- known instruments through a young, progressive lens. Alison Lynn performs on a newly-invented, electric cello, and Diana Ladio on a contemporary 5-string violin. The Moxie Strings compose the majority of their pieces and arrange melodies from many countries, resulting in a genre-blurring blend of ear-catching, mainstream melodies and foot-stomping, rock-influenced rhythms. The band’s polished, high-energy show continues to redefine strings’ role in contemporary music, and offers audience members a diverse, fun, musical experience.
After The Moxie Strings, get set for two great performances that kick off the Baroque on Beaver
Music Festival. First on Friday July 27th guitar virtuoso Mathew Cochran. Hailed for his “commanding stage presence and intimate expression” (Soundboard), Matt will also welcome soprano Martha Guth in a performance of songs by Enrique Granados. Then on Saturday the 28th, the Beaver Island Cultural Arts Association’s 1927 Mason & Hamlin grand piano will be in the house for Kevin Cole. Internationally renowned and Michigan-born, Kevin Cole makes his Beaver Island début with an evening of George Gershwin’s music. “Kevin is the best Gershwin pianist since George Gershwin himself. No one can touch him.” – Ed Jablonski, Gershwin Biographer. Both of the Baroque performances are fundraisers for the Beaver Island Cultural Arts Association, which brings you Baroque on Beaver. Receptions will follow both events with opportunities to meet the artists.
You won’t want to miss any of this great music performed in the grand acoustic space of the Robert Gillespie Memorial Theater. Tickets for The Moxie Strings are available at the BIC Center Front desk or by calling 231-448-2022.
