Summer Solstice Thank You Party & More at Your BIC Center
In accordance with tradition, on the date of the Summer Solstice, the Preservation Association of Beaver Island thanks its donors with a special dinner. This year we’ll be introducing the new, official Beaver Island Flag. And WVBI will be giving away an Amazon Alexa gizmo. But, mostly, we’ll just have a delicious dinner and celebrate the arrival of summer on the Emerald Isle.
If you’ve made a donation in the last year, you should already have an invitation by mail. If you’ve made a donation, but don’t receive an invitation please call the Community Center. And if you’ve not made a donation yet, there’s still time. Please RSVP by calling 448-2022 or sending an email to info@biccenter.org. The dinner is Thursday, the 21st. The center will close at 3:00 that day so that we are able to prepare for the event.
On Friday, we are honored to host the Premiere event for the Historical Society’s Smithsonian WaterWays exhibit. John Alan from the Michigan Office of the Great Lakes and Dave Dempsey from For the Love of Water will be here to speak, among others.
We have two great movies this weekend. Our Saturday matinee at 3 is Wonderstruck. It tells the tale of two children separated by fifty years. In 1927, Rose searches for the actress who’s life she chronicles in her scrapbook; in 1977, Ben runs away from home to find his father. At 7, Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool is our feature film. A romance sparks between a young actor and a Hollywood leading lady. will be on the big screen. It’s rated R, so no one under 18 without a parent or written parental consent.
Next week, we resume our Summer Movie Tuesdays on June 26 with the hit action feature Tomb Raider at 7. And on the 30th, join us for the first concert of out 10th Anniversary Summer Season. Dave Bennett and his quartet will be here. There’ll be jazz, blues, rock and fun! June 30 at 8pm at your BIC Center. Tickets on sale now — $35 advance. Available now at the Front Desk at the BIC Center.
It’s going to be a busy, fun-filled 10th Anniversary summer at your Beaver Island Community Center–where island adventures begin.
